UPWARD SPORTS PROGRAM AT SHARON 2010-11
- Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams and opportunities
- Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
- Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time
- Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game
Upward is more than a game. Your child will have fun learning or improving their sport specific skills through Upward. Participating in this league will give your child a chance to experience good sportsmanship on and off the court. While playing or cheering for Upward Basketball, your child will also receive a special recognition award after every game and have the opportunity to develop new friendships.

Cheerleading
When your child cheers for Upward Basketball, they will be able to sign-up individually, not as a squad. They will also learn techniques to improve their cheerleading skills.

- Upward Poms
- Upward Scripture Learning CD
- Upward Car Magnet
- Matching Hair Ribbon

How to Sign Up?
Registration Forms are located at the Sharon Church Office (may be picked up Monday -Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) or at the Upward Table in the foyer area downstairs by the Gym, Children's Area at the City of Wannabe or pick when up when you come for your Evaluation and to try on uniforms. You can also obtain an application on-line at this page, click above to download the registration form.
Registration Information:
The early registration cost per child for Basketball is $65; after September 27, the cost is $85.
The early registration cost per child for Cheerleading is $70; after September 27, the cost is $90.
Deadline for registration is October 1
Basketball shorts are included in the registration cost.
Cheerleading mock turtlenecks are included in the registration cost.
Evaluations and Orientations:
Everyone MUST attend one basketball evaluation or cheerleading orientation. The evaluation/orientation will take place at the Sharon Baptist Church Gym (Lower Level Parking Lot Downstairs) as follows:
K5 through 6th Grade Boys/Girls
Friday, August 27, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM
Thursday, September 9, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM
Monday, September 27, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM
Friday, October 1, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM
LEAGUE SCHEDULE:
Practices begin the week of Monday, October 25, 2010
First Game - Saturday, December 4, 2010
Awards Celebration - Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Are there any other fees to pay? Everything is included in the registration fee that you paid except pictures and you do not have to order pictures, see below for more information regarding pictures.
How often do we practice? One evening a week
How long are the practices? One hour
What days do we practice? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday
What time will my child’s basketball practice be? We usually start with the Kindergarten and 1st Graders practice being held from

Where is the basketball practice held? In the Gym at
Where is the Cheerleading practice held? In rooms or hallways downstairs around the lower level by the Gym.
Cheerleading Information on Game Day – Cheerleaders do not have an assigned specific team that they cheer for. They will cheer for all teams and will be provided a schedule as to what game they will cheer for on game day.
When are the games played? All games are played on Saturday.
What time will my child play on Saturday? The schedules for games will not be set until the last week of October. Schedules will be provided to your child’s coach and they will pass out that information to the parents at practice. We usually start our games at
How long do the games last? Typically one hour as long as everything is going on schedule.
Do we have pictures made? Pictures will be made on a Saturday usually before your game/cheering time during the Upward season for individual players/cheerleaders and for the team. You will receive a free team picture. You do not have to order individual pictures but we do get a really good rate from our photographer. Picture information will be provided to your Coach and they will let you know the specific date/time.
Does our team have snacks? This is left up to the individual coaches and team moms. If you want to provide snacks after your game that is up to the parents to set a schedule. Snacks are not to be brought into the Gym area.

Additional Gym/Hallway Information – We do not allow drinks/food in our gym/hallway areas. This is due to the issues of spills and possibly causing a problem for someone to get hurt. You can have drinks/food in the Youth Café where the concessions area is located.
Other Siblings/Children Issues during Practices/Games – If you bring other children to practices or games, they must stay in the gym area with you at all times and under your supervision. They cannot be out in the halls playing/running or in other parts of our building. The children also do not need to be playing inside the gym or interfering in anyway with the basketball practice or game, especially on the Gym floor. Please bring something for your child to do to keep them busy/occupied during this time.
Outside Facilities – We have an outside basketball court, volleyball sand-pit and two playground areas. Your children are welcome to play in these areas during the Upward season but they need to be supervised.
